I can't bring myself to throw away a good piece of junk or what some might think is a piece of trash when to I see an end result of beauty. I grew up in a home that nearly on a daily basis I heard the words "waste not , want not" so I recycle everything! I also grew up with a paint set, cray pas, oil paints and drawing pencils always at my disposal, wanting a career in art. But some things in life just aren't meant to be, so I continued to piddle with crafts and furniture pieces on and off as my kids have grown up. (well all but the last baby anyway ;)
Back in my beginning days of crafting I painting pop bottles, light bulbs, old windows and weathered chairs, I even put the brown paper bags from the grocery store to good crafting use as well as turning empty toilet paper rolls into drum Christmas tree ornaments. One of my favorites from years past was painting Grandpa's combine blades for my mom's sister for Christmas.
I learned the art of refinishing furniture from my greatest teacher (mom) she always had a patience about her when it came to that. Another one of my loves, and with styles changing in today's shabby chic world refurbishing furniture is so much more fun than back in the day.
When my house was for sale I was cleaning things up and I found an old pallet leaned against the shed that had definitely seen better days. I had totally forgotten that I had been saving it for a project. So I decided the one night that I would rip it apart and put my dusty paintbrushes to use. Without much hesitation based off of high demand for some of my pieces, NewLife Art by Amy was born!
I couldn't be more thrilled to be doing what I love! I refurbish furniture and reuse trash items to make art. I do also sew, watching my grandmother all my young years taught me to use a sewing machine. My greatest of passions is to transform homes from a dull space to a clean, crisp fresh and comforting home. You will see many kitchen cabinets as well as full homes #Deaoaked on my page.
