More about Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School

Niagara Catholic High School is built on the foundations that began with our predecessors:

St. Mary's High School - Bishop Duffy High School - Madonna High School

In 1927 St. Mary's, a co-educational high school, was established by the Rev. Cornelius F. Killeen, Paster of St. Mary's Church, and staffed by the Sisters of Mercy. With an ever-growing Catholic school enrollment, Bishop Duffy High School for young men was opened in 1946. The school, staffed by the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales and lay teachers, was named in memory of the Most Rev. John A. Duffy, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo from 1937 - 1944.

In the fall of 1959 the young women who had been attending St. Mary's moved to Madonna High School at the corner of Girard Avenue and 66th Street. It was staffed by the Sisters of Mercy and lay teachers.

In the fall of 1975 Bishop Duffy and Madonna combined under one entity and became Niagara Catholic High School, occupying the Bishop Duffy building at 520 66th Street, where it is today. In addition to a challenging curriculum, the virtues of faith, honesty, loyalty, and service to those in need continue to be instilled in the students today.

Niagara Catholic is proud of its unique past and strong traditions. The staff is dedicated to continuing the tradition of academic excellence started in 1927, preparing today's students spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially for tomorrow's successes.
