Northern Light School was founded in 1989 and is committed to providing a Whole Child Education to children from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, especially those who would not have the opportunity for a private school education. When looking at what a Northern Light School education promises, we look beyond seeing education and academia as a tool to train the mind, or prepare for life in a chosen field. At Northern Light School, we see education as a way to teach all of our children how to use their minds, how to respond peacefully, and how to find and pursue their passions and aspirations. A Northern Light School education is not just learning about things, but actually experiencing them, within and beyond the walls of the classroom. At Northern Light School, we do not simply teach a new set of ideas; this does not suffice. Our curricula and programs encompass the emotional, behavioral, and spiritual aspects of life and learning. Northern Light School’s curriculum is rich and rooted in the traditional academic disciplines, and instructed to the highest standards. English and the humanities, foreign language, mathematics, science, and cultural and social studies provide a rigorous grounding. Fine arts, music, athletics, and physical and health education are integral parts of our curricula, and provide more than just extra-curricular opportunities for growth and creativity.
