Northland Beltline Redevelopment Project

The Northland Corridor Redevelopment Project, in partnership with Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative and Mayor Byron Brown, will transform distressed land on Buffalo’s East Side into the future home of the Western New York Workforce Development Center and a neighboring shovel ready urban business park.

Anchoring the 50-acre business park will be the $44 million dollar Western New York Workforce Development Center located at 683 Northland Avenue. Buffalo Urban Development Corporation, the City of Buffalo’s not-for-profit land reclamation and development agency, is overseeing the redevelopment process. BUDC was granted $6.7 million from the state to purchase approximately 35 acres of land and conduct site planning for the property.

Together, BUDC and the state will invest in necessary site improvements and work to attract businesses in the critical growing sectors of advanced manufacturing and energy. The redevelopment of the site supports the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council’s smart growth strategy and will provide many local residents with future employment opportunities within walking distance of their homes.

Understanding the needs and concerns of the project’s neighbors has guided, and will continue to guide, all related decision making. A participatory planning process was established in the spring of 2015 to ensure a meaningful and productive dialogue between the project’s partners and stakeholders.
