Activities of the Department are carried out by a staff of 70 paid personnel, who work from 4 stations strategically located throughout the city.
The Fire Department enforces City ordinances against outdoor burning and the use of fireworks. Fireworks are not permitted in the City of Northport except on Independence Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day or as provided in public displays by permit.
The City of Northport provides all personnel trained, as a minimum, to the Emergency Medical Services First Responder. In addition to the First Responder, the Fire Department also carries eighteen (18) Paramedics on its roster.
The Inspection Division provides a building inspection and fire prevention program for the City of Northport. These services include plan review for new construction within the City, building code compliance inspections of public assembly and commercial properties. The Inspection Division also conducts fire prevention training programs.
The Fire Department has always maintained the belief that aggressive fire prevention education ultimately results in lower fire losses.
The Northport Fire Rescue maintains an open door policy to any citizen or group that wishes to visit or tour one of our four fire stations. Presentations may also be conducted on the following topics:

The Fire Department provides car safety seat installation at Station No. 1 on the 1st Monday and 3rd Saturday of every month.
The Fire Department is very community oriented and is always happy to visit area schools for talks and programs.
