The Northstar Cafe has a long and colorful history in the Northbeach neighborhood of San Francisco. Since 1882, the ‘Star has been serving generations of residents, tourists and riff-raff. Once a speakeasy during Prohibition, the Northstar has had many different faces. A local restaurant run by the Lagomarsino Brothers serving union bosses, politicos, newspaper staff, cops and firemen.Laterm the Tomei Brothers ran it as a neighborhood saloon where anything could happen… and usually did.
Since we took over in 1992, we’ve tried to maintain the special neighborhood feel while inviting tourists and local diners to join in the mayhem. We don’t serve any of that pesky food stuff, ‘cept for popcorn (solids are overrated), so you won’t have to mind your manners. But we will entertain you with a strangely functional and amusing staff, pool table, 6 HDTVs and a happy hour from 1 ’til 8 PM.
