Northwest Baptist Church

The Brief History of Our Historical Church
Founded In 1782

A few years preceding the organization of the church, a number of Baptist ministers traveling from Shilo, North Carolina to Pungo, Virginia stopped and preached to the people holding their meetings in private houses. The fruits of the work of these faithful men resulted in the organization of North Upper Bridge Church in 1782.

It first appears in the minutes of the Portsmouth Baptist Association a the North Upper Bridge and later as the North West Upper Bridge Church, which is the name it bore until 1820, when it assumed its present name, Northwest Baptist Church.

Several members went on to start new churches: Pleasant Grove Baptist, Bethel Baptist and Lake Drummond Baptist.

Northwest continues as of of God's cornerstones in the Chesapeake community. Currently being pastored by Pastor Ken S Gordon
