Northwood High School Community: PTSA

Northwood originally opened in 1956, but the school was closed in 1985. The expanding student population in the Silver Spring area prompted the re-opening of Northwood in 2004. The new Northwood began with only its freshman class (Class of 2008) and the school gradually grew each year before becoming a four-year high school during the 2007-2008 school year. The Class of 2008 graduated on June 2, 2008 at DAR Constitution Hall.
Northwood hosts several smaller learning programs, known as academies. Students participate in a block schedule, alternating classes on A and B days.

Northwood's dedication to academic excellence is also demonstrated through the school's involvement with the highly successful Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program.
