In 2014, the Norwich Harbor Management Commission developed the Norwich Harbor Water Trail in historic downtown Norwich. The Trail, is actually three trails of varying lengths:
ROUTE 1 / Thames Route - 3.9 miles along the Thames River, featuring Trading Cove, waterside views of the Mohegan Sun Resort skyscraper and the former Thermos on Thames Historic Mill, along with a sunken ship and other interesting scenery
ROUTE 2 / Shetucket Route - 1.6 miles along the Shetucket River featuring views of the Greeneville Dam and early industrial revolution activity along the river's edge. Passes under a railroad bridge and past an historic railroad tunnel.
ROUTE 3 / Yantic Route - 2.2 miles along the Yantic River, featuring the Uncas Leap Heritage Area at Yantic Falls. This trail brings paddlers to the base of an interesting water fall and gorge, that is also the home of a local legend - Uncas Leap. Paddlers will see wildlife, beautiful scenery and historic buildings along this route.
