Nothings New

My love of spending Saturdays & Sundays at Estate Sales and going to weekly Auctions is not new, I have been doing it for years, in a much smaller way. In the beginning it just started by friends and family asking me to find something for them. I took each one of these requests as a challenge and although it may have taken me a few months to come up with the perfect piece I always do. Some of my best finds have been a beautiful Henredon Dining Room Set, Tag Heur Watch, 1800’s Alexander Desk and just recently a 42 inch plasma TV set for my son…. $100! I know there are many of you that say ohhh I would never buy a used piece of electronics, my Bose I-Pod docking station and speakers that I purchased two years ago for $60.00 still sounds incredible. I will keep you all posted on my son’s TV.
Because of my success with Friends and Family I started to get requests from Friends of Friends to find them certain pieces, even to furnish a home within a certain budget. So to get a bit out of control and the hubby wanted his garage back and to stop having strangers over to look at furniture in the evening or on weekends when we were home from work, for me it was a hobby that I enjoyed when I was not working but to him it was an invasion on his home life . So my next was to get a storage unit which I quickly filled up and moved to a larger unit. At this time I was still finding treasures for clients but even when I did not have a client and I came across a Treasure I could not pass it up because I just knew that it was something special that someone was just going to have to have it. I started to advertise the items I had and I would need to crawl or move several pieces of furniture out of the way in the storage unit to get at the piece they came to see and knew this was not going to work. I began to think about renting a space so people could come and see everything that was in my collection. It's nothing fancy, barebones warehouse space that we have had lots of fun turning into NOTHINGS NEW. We have used old solid 5 panel doors that we have built walls and have a 12 foot high wall of wooden crates that can each fit a piece of furniture (It reminds me of Hollywood Squares). It’s been 6 months and we are seeing many familiar faces returning and lots of people come in and say “Oh my friend told me about this place and that I had to come see it.
I love it when I overhear customers saying things like :
My Grandfather had this exact desk!
I have to buy this serving dish, it’s the same one my aunt had and used on every Holiday!
Oh my gosh this is really taking me back in time.
