NVMI-North Valley Military Institute

North Valley Military Institute College Preparatory Academy is a free public charter school serving 600 students in grades 6-12. NVMI’s challenging curriculum, military framework, and emphasis on physical fitness provide students with the academic and leadership skills necessary for college and career success and a foundation for lifelong health and well-being.
NVMI is founded upon three pillars: Academic Excellence, Responsible Leadership, and Honorable Citizenship
The demanding academic program includes language arts, math, science and history, as well as world languages, leadership, and physical fitness training. NVMI seeks and supports students who have ambition and are ready to take responsibility for their own learning. The goal of NVMI is to graduate cadets who are capable of meeting the admissions requirements for any school in the nation and who are prepared for their roles as future leaders.
Through their immersion in a military learning environment, NVMI’s cadets develop personal discipline, physical fitness and leadership skills. All cadets participate as members of the California Cadet Corps, assuming increased responsibility through various positions of leadership. Cadets earn a sense of pride and community at NVMI by learning military customs and courtesies and by achieving promotions and awards for their accomplishments. All cadets share a common set of duties they are expected to fulfill as well as a code of honor requiring absolute integrity: “A cadet is respectful and will not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do.”
NVMI believes physical fitness is essential to a cadet’s development and equally seeks students who are prepared to take responsibility for their own physical well-being. Physical fitness supports the pursuit of academic excellence, demands the self-discipline required of responsible leadership, and exemplifies the core value of moderation in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Athletic activities provide cadets with opportunities not only to challenge their physical limitations and expand their physical endurance, but to work together as leaders and members of a team as well.
NVMI’s disciplinary system, patterned after the military model, is fair and predictable. A mandatory entrance camp provides a means by which candidates can learn and embrace the culture of the school prior to enrollment.
