Now in its fifth year, OC-centric: Orange County’s New Play Festival is a collaboration involving actors and directors from the various Southern California theatre scenes and dramatists who call Orange County home.
Fundamentally, the festival celebrates new works for the theatre and the voices of OC playwrights. It has become a destination event for the local theatre scene, with favorable publicity and reviews from the OC WEEKLY, Examiner.com and other media outlets.
Chapman University (and its College of Performing Arts and Theatre Department) host OC-centric annually. OC-centric is not part of the university’s annual theatre season; it is a summer festival that is marketed and promoted to the greater Southern California community.
Since the festival’s inception, we have produced new work from a variety of up-and-coming playwrights who have been staged around the country, including Erica Bennett, Megan Breen, Julie Tosh, Abbe Levine, Joni Ravenna, John Lane, Andrea Sloan Pink and Eric Eberwein, Each year, we support, affirm and introduce the works of local playwrights through full productions.
