More about Old Time Saltwater Taffy

This candy is not just a yummy treat it’s our family history and tradition. We take pride in our product, history, memories. This candy is made with love and integrity passed down from generation to generation, continuing a long line of family tradition of excellence. For over 100 years our family has been crafting candy beginning at the turn of the 20th Century our Great Uncle Lawrence Malone who was a Master Candy Maker taught his craft and trade to his three brothers Earl, Carl and Ed Malone. Dedicated to perfection and his pride to the art of crafting candy, he taught them not only to make candy but how to love the art of making candy. Regardless if you were to put a piece in your mouth then or today the family tradition lives on in every candy we make. Our family confections have become some of the most popular fresh confections over the last Century and our family is proud to have been there throughout it all. In 1914 my Great Uncle Lawrence took his brother in law, James McMeen into the business and taught him the craft of making fresh, soft chew taffy. Over the years our family has crafted fresh made candy and opened candy shops in Chicago, IL; Springfield, Il; Salt Lake City, UT; Denver, Co; and Estes Park Co. These stores where all family owned and operated with the dedication and pride passed down within our family. In 1933 our family was invited to The World’s Fair in Chicago, which was our families chance to show the World our candy crafting art. We were loved and admired which started a loyal following for the love of our candy; at that time we only sold Vanilla and Black Walnut Taffy. In 1934 we were invited back to the World’s Fair and set up in the Spanish and Colonial Villages, that year our family was awarded the 1934 World Fair Finest Fresh Confection, this opened the door to a new world of fairs and festivals where we could travel and bring our family traditions to your families all over the United States. James Mcmeen then taught the art of crafting candy to his children, who in turn instilled in me the love of candy making and how to do things the right way to make an exceptional product. As a teenager my father took me under his wing and on the road, where I learned the family tradition of excellence and the craft of making perfect fresh confections. For which I still value and implement with pride and love. Over 48 years ago my mother and father opened a candy store in Denver, Colorado, featuring over 60 different fresh confections. Over 20 years ago they decided to take our candy out on the road and come to you, we narrowed our specialty to making the best fresh soft taffy that anyone has ever tasted and share this love at fairs and festivals in the mid-west and southern regions. We now make over 10 favors and can make any favor your heart desires within reason and notice, on occasion we get special requests for which we try to always fill regardless of how weird or crazy your taste buds may be. Our number one seller is the traditional vanilla for which many of our loyal customers say is the only flavor. However for those more daring we also offer, our family traditional Black Walnut, perhaps known as the most unique flavor of all our taffy flavors. We also have fresh fruit strawberry, real banana, chocolate lovers chocolate, fruity watermelon and for those with daring taste buds we have sour green apple that will make your teeth squeak and hot fireball cinnamon, if you dare to take the challenge.
