More about Olivet Christian Church

What We Believe

A brief summary:
•Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, died for our sins and arose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8; John 3:16)
•The Bible is the inspired Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21, 22)
•Every person has inherent value as a creation of God, but all people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:21-34; Isaiah 53:6)
•Salvation can not be earned, but is only available by God’s grace. (Ephesians 2:8, 9; Romans 6:23)
•Forgiveness of sins and salvation are available to those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (John 3:16; John 14:6)
•God forgives and saves us by His grace when we are united with Jesus Christ in baptism (by immersion). (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-7)
•In order to remain spiritually alive and growing, we must continue in our faith (1 Corinthians 15:2; Colossians 1:21-23)
•The church is the body of Christ on earth. (1 Corinthians 12:27; Ephesians 4:1-16)
•Jesus Christ will one day return! (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 & John 14:1-3)

Our History

Olivet Christian Church was founded in October of 1879 by members of Grafton Christian Church. The first service was held in a one room school house one and a half miles north of our current location on November 2, 1879. There were eleven members present. The school house was renovated and dedicated on August 6, 1882. The first new building, one half mile north of our current location, was dedicated on May 30, 1909. Fire destroyed this house of worship on February 21, 1948. Ground breaking for another building was on August 19, 1948 and a new educational building was dedicated on August 16, 1964. Olivet persevered through a succession of buildings with both growth and setbacks - including nearly a year of no services during 1918 and 1919. The rapid growth in the past decade necessitated the expansion of our building and the addition of a new and larger worship center which was completed September 1, 2002. In the Fall of 2004 Olivet was joined by a sister congregation, Christ's Church of the Peninsula, to create a new and growing congregation. While Olivet's history is rich with God's blessings, we are focused of the future as we strive to bring glory to God and to bring lost people to salvation through Jesus Christ.
