The founders of Opes Advisors established the company that they wish existed when they first achieved significant financial success. Filling the Gaps

Opes Advisors was founded by three people who, though on different career paths, all discovered a huge fundamental hole in the marketplace: No financial services firm was equipped to offer advice on real estate or real estate financing while managing all the investments in a portfolio. There simply were no firms advising people about their entire financial life.

Jonathan Lee is a veteran Silicon Valley entrepreneur who lived through some of the investment mistakes that he wants to prevent happening to other people. He approached his entry into wealth management in a classic Silicon Valley fashion – identifying a problem, and establishing a customer-centered solution.

Susan McHan ran her own mortgage company, sold it, and worked for a large mortgage bank, but she was concerned that the mortgage industry was working against its own long-term interest by giving people loans that did not take their entire financial pictures into consideration.

Mark Duvall, a Chartered Financial Analyst, worked for a big bank, where he saw that the investment department dealt only with stocks and bonds and mutual funds, but left real estate to the mortgage department. The two never coordinated, except to sell more products – certainly not to give clients a holistic view of their portfolios.

Because of their unique backgrounds and perspectives, they were able to create an innovative new advisory service, one based on trust and on the surprisingly groundbreaking notion that you need to consider the whole picture whenever you make a major financial decision.
