Our story begins in 1989, when Denny Yakes, an office products dealer who had been working at his family-owned store since 1971, approached his second cousin, Jim Anderson, about creating a full-color catalog for the buying group his dealership belonged to. Buying groups were the wave of the future in the office products world as independents were waging a war against newly formed superstores like Office Depot, Staples, and OfficeMax. Knowing that strategic marketing could make or break a business, Yakes turned to the one person he knew could steer him in the right direction in terms of advertising. Anderson had worked as an art director for two advertising agencies and was successfully running his own agency at the time.

Combining Anderson’s winning design skills with Yakes’s vast product knowledge, the two created the first catalog ever offered by an office products buying group. This groundbreaking catalog prompted Anderson and Yakes to form OPMA, a marketing and advertising agency that specialized in materials for the office products industry.
Over the 18 years that followed, OPMA’s reputation for accuracy and creativity spread throughout the industry and many of the top buying groups, office supply wholesalers, and national brand-name manufacturers chose OPMA as their agency of record.

And as OPMA has grown, so have our capabilities. Today, we continue to design and produce catalogs, but have also added sales flyers, marketing tools, Web sites, e-marketing tools, packaging, and photography services to our repertoire. In addition, we coordinate dealer orders for the marketing programs we create. We have also extended our expertise into the areas of office furniture, school supplies, and IT products.
