It was 1962 in the heart of a West Toledo neighborhood, where Lester Diefenthaler’s passion for the field of vision was budding into a new business venture. It was the emergence of what has become a staple in the Northwest Ohio’s small/local business community. It was a place where you were treated like family, because it was run by family. A place where you knew you would be served with integrity as well as expertise. The place was Optical Arts, and its name encapsulates the heart of the business. From those humble beginnings Optical Arts has flourished into the pinnacle of eyewear in the area. For the past 55 years the Optical Arts family has set the gold standard for innovation and quality in the optical field starting the edging and finishing PMMA lenses which is totally obsolete today. In 1990 following the passing of her father Lester, Mary Nyitray assumed control of the family business. The passing of Lester was felt by the entire Ohio opticians community, the headline of the Ohio Opticians Newsletter read “Lens Pioneer Dies”. Mary had been groomed for this moment by her beloved father, and under her direction the company continued to flourish. This growth in the business was an integral component in establishing Optical Arts as THE place to receive the highest of quality in eye care. More than just a boutique, Optical Arts is a fusion of fashion and optical health serving the community for multiple generations.
