More about Orange Beach Elementary School

History: Orange Beach Elementary School was opened on the present site in August 1997. During the years from 1910 to 1914, Orange Beach had a one-room schoolhouse. That building is now registered as a National Historic Site and presently serves as the Indian and Sea Museum of Orange Beach. Orange Beach Elementary School received its initial accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1998. This accreditation was renewed in 2004.

Orange Beach Elementary completed construction of an environmental learning center called the Sea, Sand & Stars Learning Center in 2007. Sea, Sand & Stars features five teaching stations inside and five teaching stations outside along an elevated boardwalk. A planetarium, a climate-controlled weather station, a technology laboratory, a 5,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, and a ‘touch tank’ are all part of the facility. The facility was dedicated and renamed as Steven W. Baker Sea, Sand, & Stars, Science and Nature Center on September 29, 2010. On October 14, 2011 the Steven W. Baker Sea, Sand, & Stars, Science and Nature Center was dedicated as an Alabama Wildlife Federation Outdoor Classroom.
