During the rehabilitation process, veterinarians and their team examine, diagnose, and treat the injured raptors, performing treatments such as medication, radiology, surgery, and physical therapy. Once the birds are ready for recovery, we move them to flight cages (known in the ornithology world as mews) so they can regain skills necessary for surviving in the wild. The hospital staff and center members carefully evaluate the avian individuals for proper health, diet, and behavior before releasing them back into their natural habitats. In addition, weather and status of wild birds in the area are also analyzed. While at the center, young birds learn to hunt live food, honing their predatory and flying skills before release.

When the birds are ready to be released, we find a location similar to their natural habitat and allow sponsors to don a falconer’s glove, hold their sponsored raptor, and wish them well as they spread their wings and fly off. For a small donation, you may sponsor a bird to release and we will call you when your bird is ready.

Finally, our organization is also dedicated to broadening the awareness and education of the general public through class trips, Scout meetings, park programs, civic groups, public television specialists, and nature exhibits all throughout Orange County, CA.
