More about Orange Volunteer Fire Company

The Orange Volunteer Fire Company, established in 1921, began and still remains as an all volunteer organization which serves the Town of Orange and greater community of Orange County. The department first began under the direction of Dr. E.H. Rouse, a local pharmacist. A.J. Harlow, Mayor of the town, saw it fit to help establish a department after a great fire in 1908 that leveled the downtown business district. From that point forward, the department began its expansion and service to the community under Dr. Rouse.

The Orange Volunteer Fire Company has been led by nine Chief’s since its establishment. The department is currently led by E.S. Roby III. As the Fire Chief, he manages the day to day operations of the department. At his side are 2 Assistant Chiefs which handle both the Operational and Logistical load the department undertakes each and every day. The department also elects a Captain who serves as the Training Officer and coordinates training 2-3 Monday nights each month and tracks all members training data all year long. Six Lieutenants are also elected and each is responsible for apparatus upkeep and maintenance among many other job titles and positions the Fire Chief deems necessary.

The company as a whole is comprised of 40 well trained individuals versed in Firefighting, Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous Materials, Truck Operations, and Technical Rescue. In 2013 alone, active members of the department accrued over 1,500 hours of combined In Station and Outside Training. The hard work each member puts forth in training shows a true sense of pride for their community and the department’s success.

The department operates out of the fire station located at 205 Caroline Street in the Town of Orange. Housed apparatus include: 2012 Class A 1500 GPM Pierce Impel (Engine 23), 2000 Class A Pumper/Tanker 1250 GPM Pierce Dash (Tanker 23), 2007 Class A 1500 GPM Rescue/Engine Pierce Dash (Squad 23), and 2008 Rear-Mount 105’, 2000 GPM Quint Pierce Velocity Aerial (Truck 23).

Other units include: 2008 Chevrolet 2500 HD W/T with a 250 gpm pump operating as Brush 23 and 1990 GMC Sierra on a utility body operating as Support 23. Our Chief Officers utilize a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LS which is setup to operate as a Command vehicle.

All of our operations and equipment don’t come without a financial burden. The Orange Volunteer Fire Company relies on fundraising events to help offset operating costs accrued throughout the year. Of those events, they host and offer the following: Annual Fireman’s Fair, Golf Tournament, Steak Raffle Dinner, and Christmas Tree Sales during the holiday season. We appreciate the support from the community each year.
