ORC Salvage

Years ago, I found myself standing in the workshop looking at some rough cut oak on my work bench. In the background was the hymn "Old Rugged Cross" and so it began. The idea that all of the crosses we have in our homes certainly meet the symbolism behind Christ's sacrifice, but in my mind, fall short of the meaning behind It.
It was not a polished and glorious cross, that describes The Throne. The cross, the place of sacrifice, needed to be much more simple. Old, Rugged, and of His creation.
Some of the first crosses made in my shop were simply rough cut wood, and scrap that I had found, but as I searched through old buildings and scrap piles, I started get the story behind some of the wood. There were crosses made of an old school's door jamb for some of the kids' teachers. A cross made for a firefighter's home with scraps from a burnt building he entered first.
I have started making other items for the seasons and supplying local stores with salvage pieces for their own products, but I have felt led to share my hobby more, not just as a hobby, but a ministry.
