More about Orchestra on the Oregon Trail

Where music meets the meadow!

Journey to Alcove Spring Historic Park for Orchestra on the Oregon Trail, an all-day experience with music and events for all ages Sunday, September 6. The Topeka Symphony Orchestra and the natural wonder of Alcove Spring will combine as a tribute to a wilderness traversed by the pioneers.

As part of their 70th season, the Topeka Symphony Orchestra’s sound will cascade through the meadow, creating a truly unforgettable experience. Under the accomplished direction of Kyle Wiley Pickett, this Kansas-based orchestra will perform an Old West concert complete with musical themes from Western movies, the sounds of the pioneer days and songs that highlight the American spirit. The orchestra will perform on the main stage at 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy inspired music in a natural setting.

Located six miles south of Marysville in Marshall County, Kansas, Alcove Spring Historic Park spans 246 largely undeveloped acres located on the historic Oregon-California Trail. Wagon swales remain, showing the paths pioneers traveled to and from ferry crossings as they headed west. This historic site was the stopping place for many wagon trains, including the legendary Donner-Reed party.

Gates to the park open at 1:00 p.m.

Wagon rides, cowboy poetry, and nature walks will be held in conjunction with the evening performance. Those arriving early may choose from a variety of activities to fill their afternoon.
Dinner

A dinner will be served buffet-style for an additional charge.

Following the concert…

…which concludes at sundown, dancing, star-gazing, and other activities will continue into the night.

Orchestra on the Oregon Trail is the perfect way to leave today and step into yesterday at Alcove Spring Historic Park where the pioneers left their mark on the land.
