Dr. Gittins received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson University in Anderson, IN. He attended medical school at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO. After completing his internship and orthopedic residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, OH, Dr. Gittins completed his orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) where he learned advanced techniques in arthroscopic surgery for the shoulder, elbow, knee, foot and ankle. Dr. Gittins also spent six months of additional training in foot and ankle surgery and trauma surgery at SCOI. Dr. Gittins completed his foot and ankle fellowship with Roger A. Mann in Oakland, CA. While in Oakland, Dr. Gittins participated in advanced reconstruction techniques for the foot and ankle including Total Ankle Replacement. Dr. Gittins continues to be active in arthroscopic research and foot and ankle research.
Dr. Gittins served as team physician for many high schools and universities. He has published articles in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research and has written chapters in textbooks for shoulder arthroscopy and foot and ankle arthroscopy. He is an associate master instructor of Foot and Ankle Arthroscopy for the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Charity interests include Heart to Honduras Medical Missionary Group where he is an orthopedic consultant. Dr. Gittins holds privileges at New Albany Surgical Hospital, St. Ann's Hospital, GRANT Bone and Joint Center, and OSU East Hospital.
