Outagamie County became the responsible unit of government in 1990 when Wisconsin passed a law that "banned" certain items from landfill disposal.
The County contracts with a private hauler to collect curbside recyclables from the 66,000 households within the County, including all of Appleton and New London.
The curbside recycling program is for all residents living in a single family home, duplex, triplex or four-plex. By law, property owners or landlords of larger multi-family dwellings must provide recycling programs for their tenants.
The Outagamie County recycling program is a leader in Wisconsin's recycling industry, with a focus on creating jobs, protecting the environment, conserving resources and encouraging all to: “recycle more ... landfill less.”
