More about Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Independence

Palestine Missionary Baptist Church was the second oldest African American church in Independence, Missouri, which opened it's doors on September 15, 1938. The church was situated on the historic Young School property, which housed the first African American school building in Independence, Missouri. The school was built by Hiram Young after the Civil War, and eventually was torn down and a new school was built on Dodgion Street in 1934. Sadly our church building has been condemned and demolished. For awhile there we were like the Israelites wandering from place to place until the kind Pastor Amy Harken and the congregation at First Christian Church were so gracious to allow us to worship in their chapel for nearly a year. This allowed us some time to get back onto our feet and find the temporary location we have now until the day that we can build our new home.
