Palmetto Performing Arts

Here we will keep you up to date as we go through the necessary changes to make your 2014-2015 season at PPA the best! Below are just some of the classes we will offer.


Tiny Toes (45 minute class)
AGE 2 BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2014
For the youngest dancer, Tiny Toes is a creative introduction to the basic movements of dance.


Kinder Moves
-LEVEL 1: AGES 3-4 (45 minute class)
MUST BE 3 BY September 1, 2014
KinderMoves 1 is an introduction to the basic fundamentals of tap and ballet. Students will participate in a formal class setting. Dancers will perform two dances in the May recital to show off their skills! At the KinderMoves level we want our young dancers to understand the importance of discipline by dressing appropriately. (tights and secured hair are required)
-LEVEL 2: AGES 4-5 (45 min class)
KinderMoves 2 is great for the first time dancer or those that have already completed KM1. We will add to our vocabulary learned in level 1. These dancers will also perform a tap and a ballet dance in the May recital. (same costume)

Primary Combo
Primary Combo is a new level for the 14-15 season. We will polish up on skills from KM1 & KM2 and add acrobatics to the class. In acro they will work on their strength, balance and agility. This class is an hour long and dancers will perform a tap and a ballet dance in the recital. At the Primary level we want our young dancers to understand the importance of discipline by dressing appropriately. (tights and secured hair are required)


BALLET TECHNIQUE
(Ages 5 and up)
Beginning levels will learn ballet fundamentals and terminology while developing strength, confidence, balance, and flexibility. As our dancers progress into upper levels they will learn concentration and endurance and become proficient in fundamental dance movement and ballet technique. Upper levels are based on faculty placement and dance experience.


POINTE
Because of the risk of injury, students must be physically ready for pointe; therefore, this class is by invitation only. Students must also be registered for two (2) ballet technique class in addition to the Pointe class.


TAP
(Ages 6 and up)
The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies.



ACROBATICS
It is a dance form that combines dance technique with acrobatic elements. Acro requires rhythm, strength, balance and agility. These talented students will perform a routine at the recital to display their polished skills!


JAZZ
This is a technically demanding class that focuses on musicality, jazz vocabulary, artistry, and performance skills. They will learn basic ballet terminology along with jazz technique. Dancers will perform a high energy and entertaining dance at our May recital. Placement is based on age and dance experience.


LYRICAL
-LEVEL 1: (Ages 6-10)
This class will blend elements of Lyrical and Modern dance, such as freedom of expression, interpretation of music, principles of fall and recovery, control, breathing and balance. Students will be taught modern technique while being encouraged to express their emotions and develop artistry through movement.

-LEVEL 2: (Ages 11 and up)
Level 2 will build from the pervious years and combinations will be more challenging. Placement will be based on years of experience and maturity.


CONTEMPORARY
(Ages 13 and up)
In this class students develop their minds, bodies, and spirits as an expressive communicator through movement, whether it be in a combination or by way of improvisation. These skills use a wide range of techniques and other unlimited arrays of movements that help them think outside of the box. This class is for our older students who have had experience in ballet or jazz and are ready to dance on a mature level.
