Pasquotank-Camden EMS

Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Service is a paramedic level EMS organization serving both Pasquotank and Camden counties. Founded in 1967, Pasquotank-Camden EMS operates out of centralized station adjacent to Albemarle Hospital. It is funded through Pasquotank County by general tax revenue, by fees charged to users, and by a contribution from Camden County and Albemarle Hospital. Pasquotank-Camden EMS is credentialed by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services and employs approximately 50 Paramedics, EMT-Intermediates, Emergency Medical Technicians. Administrative staff includes EMS Director, Assistant Director, 4 Shift Supervisors, Training Officer, Office Manager and 2 Office Assistants.

Pasquotank-Camden EMS serves an area of 468 square miles with a population of over 40,000 people. It is a paid service that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Pasquotank County Rescue Squad, a volunteer service, supports the EMS System by providing supplemental coverage on an as scheduled basis.

Pasquotank-Camden EMS provides daily staffing for four ambulances 24 hours a day with two additional peak ambulances in Camden to answer 9-1-1 dispatched calls, provide transports, and cover standby requests and public events. Two transport ambulances are staffed daily to provide tranpsort services. Each ambulance is staffed by two EMT's, one of which must have the minimum certification level of EMT-Paramedic. Each of these 'teams' provide continuous, quality pre-hospital emergency care to the residents of the two counties.

Pasquotank-Camden EMS utilizes first responders for coverage in the outlying areas to decrease response times. We work in coordination with other various county and city agencies, fire, sheriff and police departments. We are also served by two air medical helicopters; Nightingale Air Ambulance in Norfolk, VA, Vidant Air Ambulance in Greenville, NC as well as the United States Coast Guard from Air Station Elizabeth City.
