Husband and husband team Miguel Briceño and Jeffrey Whitney, one acting as the creative mastermind and the other business savvy, respectively, bring to the world Pauglina, a cross-genre retail experience unseen in the rediscovered Queens neighborhood that is Jackson Heights. Collectively the couple represents 40 years of luxury retail experience that includes Aedes de Venustas in the West Village, Bergdorf Goodman, ABC Carpet & Home, Jonathan Adler and Restoration Hardware. The name, a nod to Miguel’s Venezuelan family, morphs the nombres of Mama Paula, the late Papa Augusto and favorite Tia Lina, is a moniker that helps represent the love and passion with which the store was built. The shop, a cross-genre experience, is one-part floral shop, one-part home décor and one-part coffee bar. Elegant but non-intimidating, the idea is to get the customer in, grab a bouquet on the go and while one waits for it to be wrapped in a presentation to impress, one is seduced by the aroma of a hand-poured fragrant candle that is not overpowered by the waft of a fresh brew which is equally as enticing. The store has a goal of integrating itself into the community fabric without disrespecting the hood’s ethnic core of Southeast Asia meets the Middle East on the border of Colombia and China.
