The Balanced Canine

The Balanced Canine offers a wide variety of classes and options to meet the needs of all my clients. I want to help my clients find a solution to living with their pets, and help the pets find a solution to living with their owners. Living with any animal is a commitment, and my commitment to you is to offer the best of my abilities to help you raise, train, and love your pet.

Some backstory on Emily Steffen, the owner and trainer at The Balanced Canine.

I started out as a young girl, raised with my mother's pets, and always a heavy passion for not only understanding them, but interacting with them. As a child I would play on all fours, pretending to be a dog, using body signals as they did. As I grew older, I realised I no longer needed to walk on all fours to communicate. Instead I've spent my life studying dog behavior, how dogs learn, the theory of evolution, and most importantly working with and studying the everyday life of dogs in the home.

Over the past few years I have worked with some amazing trainers, including a 40 year K9 police force veteran, long time business owner, and friends in the same trade. I've poured over thousands of pages of books, spent countless hours working with not only my own dogs, but clients dogs, and training service dogs.

My goal is to not only change a dog's life, but also it's owner. As I always say, I train both ends of the leash, not just the one attached to a collar.
