More about Pennsylvania Eastern Keystone Baptist Association (PEKBA)

In the year 1910, when a group of Ministers and Minister’ wives, Missionaries and Deacons felt the need for a union of fellowship believers of like faith and practice, that would strengthen the course in which they were involved, they met and organized what was then the Eastern Baptist Association.

Among the churches represented in that body were Mt. Olive Tabernacle, Mt. Carmel, White Rock, Grace of Germantown, Nazarene, Corinthian of Germantown, Bethany of Chester, First Baptist Darby, North Penn, Holy Trinity, Tasker Street and Galilee Baptist Church.

Pastors who helped during that period to guide the work of the Association included Reverends Napper H. Hester, Robert W. Golf, P.H. Hughes, W.H. Hopkins, Fletcher Williams, John H. Duvelle, C.W. Gregory, Morton Winston Graham, G.L. Davis, and W.H. Watkins. A Women’s Auxiliary was formed later, followed by a Youth Department. Sisters Susie Johnson and Elvira Preston were among the lay-women who made their contributions to the cause. Much later the Laymen were organized.

Twelve years later, in 1922, a group of churches withdrew from the Body and organized the Pennsylvania Baptist Association. The name of the original organization was changed to the Eastern Keystone Baptist Association.

The two groups have separately made many worthwhile contributions to the cause of missions, Evangelism and Christian Education.
