The Long Island FQHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center charged with the mission of providing primary and preventative health care to Nassau County residents. The Long Island FQHC is committed to reducing the incidence of new HIV infections by implementing a Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) program.

The goal of the P.E.O.P.L.E (Pre-Exposure Outreach, Prevention and Lifestyle Education) Project is: to identify patients who are at risk for HIV infection via our STD clinic visits, to raise awareness of pre-exposure prophylaxis in at risk populations, to educate and counsel on STD prevention and risk reduction strategies, and to reduce the number of new HIV infections in Nassau County by implementing an HIV positive case management link to a partner risk reduction program.

This program is funded by the New York State Department of Health to support and promote PrEP services to Nassau County residents by facilitating primary care provider education, providing patient HIV risk screening and education, hosting community events to increase awareness, providing linkages to PrEP treatment, and providing outreach care coordination to improve treatment and prevention rates of sexually transmitted infections and HIV infection for Nassau County residents.
