More about Phat Joe Ski Foundation

About:
My goal is to fundraise to help offset costs of travel and coaching for this event, in addition to
my 201 competition and race schedule in U.S. & Canada

About Me:

Hi there, my name is Joe Olson. I am 14 yrs old and a competitive Alpine skier. I am a 5th generation Montanan with the great fortune of growing up in the mountains. I began skiing at 3 years old and am now in my 7th year of training with the Big Sky Ski Education Foundation.

I compete in both the USSA and IFSA organizations as an Alpine Racer, Freestyle and in Freeride Big Mountain competition. I am also involved in football, basketball, rodeo and track. I find sports to be a training tool that teaches me discipline and values that I will use for the rest of my life.

My passion for skiing is evident through my work ethic. Since a young boy, I have shown high drive and independence with early morning mountain commutes and prompt arrival to training. The sport of skiing is a huge time commitment. I never miss weekly training or competition commitments, while keeping up with school studies & receiving good grades. I also work to help pay for my training camps and equipment. Freeride competition is now recognized as an intercollegiate sport. My ultimate goal is to use his success to earn a college scholarship and study Business Management to start my own ski company.

My work ethic and dedication has been acknowledged by receiving the BSSEF Sportsmanship Award from the coaching staff. The coaching and training at Big Sky can be considered some of the best in the US. They believe in building self esteem, confidence, character, and a love for the outdoors. It has definitely rung true for me, as I aspire to follow in the footsteps of other Big Sky athletes who have continued on to compete in college and for the US Ski Team.

Why I’m Raising:

I am seeking support to help cover expenses for the upcoming 2016 ski season to compete in the US and Canada.

Last year, I competed at the 2015 Freeride Junior World Championship in Grandvalira, Andorra. I placed 11th, as the youngest competitor in the extreme, big mountain, freeride event including the top junior athletes from around the World. I consider the selection an honor and excellent learning experience for me as a young athlete.
My goal is to compete at the event, in addition to competing regionally in the US & Canada.

I am currently exploring resources to help fund travel expenses, coaching and athlete fees. Skiing is an expensive sport. With more success, comes more expenses in training programs & camps, coaching, equipment and travel.

My consistent placings earned me a top 3 seeded slot at the USSA Divisional Championships as one of the top Northern Division Alpine Racers. Last year, I expanded my ski discipline by training and competing with big mountain BSSEF Freeride team. I finished my rookie year, placing 1st my division and 2nd overall with the 18yr olds at the JFT World Championships.

I know that success does not come without a cost and I am grateful for the support and generosity of friends like you who help keep my dreams alive. I would be honored to be considered as a sponsorship candidate.
