Pinellas County does not have a countywide library system, but 14 municipal and independent libraries came together to create PPLC in order to facilitate access to library service for the residents of unincorporated Pinellas County and to foster a sense of cohesion in library services across the county. Each member library retains local control of its operations while collaborating through PPLC to find common ground. PPLC administers two services that were initiated by individual libraries that have expanded over the years to offer countywide benefits - the Talking Book Library and Deaf Literacy Center. PPLC also supports member libraries’ current pursuit of a shared library automation system and catalog to facilitate convenient access to all library holdings throughout the county.
