Piqua Central Intermediate School

Piqua Central Intermediate School, established in 2015, is the Piqua City Schools building that serves all Piqua students in the fourth through sixth grades. First and foremost, PCIS is a part of the Piqua community, built and organized to put the needs of Piqua's children first.

PCIS boasts an all-inclusive spectrum of opportunities for students, including seven Intervention Specialists, two Title I teachers, two Gifted Intervention Specialists, a full-time guidance counselor, a full-time nurse. In addition, PCIS is home to county units for low-incidence disabilities and a site for the Miami County Immunization Clinic.

The PCIS staff offers an invaluable balance of experienced veterans and freshly trained educators to meet the needs of all students.

Students at PCIS have access to a variety of experiences, including Sixth Grade Band, Destination Imagination, Invention Convention, National History Day, Kiwanis K Kids, Student Leadership, and fitness programs.

Additionally, students leave the building to enrich their in-school experiences. Students will visit Piqua's own Johnston Farm and Dayton's Schuster Center, as well as participating in several Miami County Parks District programs at Charleston Falls and Stillwater Prairie Reserve. The fifth grade's four-day, three-night trip to Glen Helen Nature Preserve in Yellow Springs becomes more popular every year.

New for the 2015-2016 school year will be courses in Wellness and Digital Technology. Upon demolition of the former Nicklin School, the space will be used for a eco-lab and school/community garden. The PCIS gymnasium's size and quality will allow us to host a variety of sports events. Our new creation space in the art room is outfitted with a kiln and potter's wheels to support students' exploration of ceramics. Our stage offer the ideal space for both musical and dramatic productions.
