Pit Stop Pizza opened in May 2015 in Virgilina, VA, having transformed and remodeled an existing bank building which had previously operated for nearly 2 decades. Adjacent to the bank building was a 104 year old warehouse which was demolished to make room for the glass enclosure which was added on to the restaurant in 2014. The addition increased total available seating to just under 100.
The restaurant was founded by 2 brothers, Don and Jim Ellixson whose original concept and purpose was to carry on the legacy and heritage of their father who was born and raised in Virgilina, VA and whose childhood house, built in the 1800's, still stands today.
Pit Stop Pizza operates 7 days a week offering a wide array of appetizers, specialty entrees and their signature Philly cheesesteaks and hoagies with all dishes made with fresh ingredients. Pizzas are available in 2 sizes with several toppings available.
Pit Stop offers a full service VA Lottery which is one of only a handful of non-convenience stores in VA. Additionally, an ATM is available for customers.
There is a variety of craft and domestic draft beer on tap as well as a wide variety of bottled beer for consumption indoors or takeout. In-house and take-out wine is also available.
A recent added service is breakfast served from 6AM to 10AM 6 days a week.
In addition to managing and overseeing the restaurant operations, Don has a hand (literally) in preparing and/or serving nearly every order either dined-in or take-out.
