Pixley Library

"Pixley Library established November 1, 1913, in Mr. Knapp's office. Mr. Knapp, who was appointed custodian, was the secretary of "Norviel-Compton Scraper Company."

February 20. 1914 the library moved to the office of "Compton and Company' with Miss Edna Murphy in charge.

October 1914 Miss Mabel Bolter became custodian.

January 1915 Franklin P. Khinehart became custodian.

July 1915 the library moved to the hotel, with Mrs. Lottie E. Penshaw in charge.

July 1916 Mrs. J.B. Flammang became custodian, branch still in hotel.

April 1918 Mrs. Essie Hensell became custodian.

June 1, 1918 Mrs. Hensell resigned. The branch closed during the summer.

October 1, 1918 Branch re-established in Post Office; Mrs. J. A. Follett was custodian.

June 1925 branch discontinued, too busy with P.O. and store.

November 1926 branch was re-established in Mr. C.W. Carter's drug store.

March 1, 1933 branch moved to Broxton's newspaper office. Mrs. Clara Broxton was appointed custodian.

March 1, 1937 Mr. F.G. Graves took over library in the same location.

March 1. 1938 Mrs. Muriel E. Kerr became custodian.

November 8, 1939 Mr. Broxton returned to Pixley, resumed his business and the care of the library.

August 1, 1944 Mr. W.A. McArthur succeeded C.O. Broxton as custodian.

October 4, 1948 Pixley Library opened in a separate location (Court street). Mrs. Jewel English was in charge.

In the early 90's (?) the library moved to a new building, located at 300 N. School St.
