Although evidence of a rich cultural history abounds if you know what to look for, the Potomac River has worked hard to achieve it’s wilderness designation. The river follows the historic C&O Canal for 184 miles. It is not difficult to imagine you were the first explorer to paddle the river and float along the C&O Canal, or first to step foot on the sandy beach of Paton Island, or first to feel the excitement of catching that monster small mouth bass or tiger musky.
