Practical Martial Arts

Welcome.

Practical Martial Arts & Marin Karate Kids is a very different kind of martial arts school. Two names, one philosophy: take the progressive techniques of mixed martial arts and unite them with the traditions and principles of the past. We have been providing this exceptional martial arts experience to students of all ages since 1993.

Our style Freestyle Mixed Martial Arts is a blend of Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, traditional boxing, wrestling, Judo and street self-defense. Our curriculum is designed to provide real, accessible self defense skills to students should they ever need it; to provide an authentic, high level, competetive martial arts experience to students of all ages and finally to provide a safe and supportive environment in which to train. We are not a 'fighter's gym'. The tradition of structured classes, uniforms and etiquette are an elemental part of our community.

The physical curriculum is balanced with non-violent conflict resolution, scenario-based self-defense & altruism projects. Through service projects focusing on goodwill we build community inside and outside the dojo as we feel that our dojo is a metaphor for life. Contribution, character and physical competency is integral to our vision of a true Black Belt.

Our style is easily adapted to different levels of fitness and abilities and creates a welcoming atmosphere for those new or seasoned in martial arts. We provide a full range of instruction – fitness, self-defense, life skills and of course, martial arts - for kids, teens & adults, including camps during school breaks and summer vacation.

For us, our life is our dojo. Every day we are inspired by our work and feel a great sense of honor to be trusted to influence the lives of our students. We hope that you will stop in for a visit, kick off your shoes and take your first step on the journey of a thousand miles....
