More about Princeton Tennis Program

The Princeton Tennis Program is, by tradition and choice, a year-round, nonprofit tennis organization for children and adults of Princeton and surrounding New Jersey communities.
As a tennis association, we pursue a standard of excellence in teaching that encourages the development of health, character, good sportsmanship and responsible citizenship.
The Program seeks broad-based community participation by subsidizing lesson fees and establishing scholarship programs for applicants unable to meet costs. Whenever possible, the Program will provide assistance and support to other groups and communities.
Our History:
PTP has a proud heritage of offering group tennis instruction to aspiring players between 5 and 95 years of age. Founded in 1954 by Eve Kraft and John Conroy (both charter members of the Mercer County Tennis Hall of Fame), more than 120,000 local residents have participated in PTP programs. Winner of many regional and national awards, PTP has served as a model program for communities across the country and was voted one of the top 50 tennis organizations by Tennis Magazine. PTP has been named "Organization of Year" by the USTA/NJ district and Middle States section in 2000 and 2010. In 1999, was one of just eight organizations nationwide to be recognized for outstanding achievement in USA tennis programming. In 2002, PTP expanded its outdoor program to include Veteran's Park in Hamilton, NJ, which provided access to 30 additional tennis courts. In December 2008, PTP purchased Princeton Indoor Tennis Center, and in January 2009, moved its offices into the facility. On August 28, 2009, a dedication ceremony was held to officially change the name of the tennis facility to the Eve Kraft Community Tennis Center, home of the Princeton Tennis Program. In Aug. 2011 the Eve Kraft Community Tennis Center was flooded by Hurricane Irene. The courts were resurfaced with the addition of the 10 and under blended lines, and the insulation and protected pads were replaced. The first floor lobby, offices, kitchen and ladies locker room all received major renovations. In the spring of 2012 the Princeton Recreation Department requested PTP to take over the tennis operation at Community Park Tennis Complex; expenses, facility maintenance, programming, and staffing.
General Information:
PTP works closely with the USTA and offers leagues, team tennis, and sanctioned tournaments as well as special programs to other groups, such as seniors, wheelchair players, Special Olympics, and school children.
Three times per year, PTP mails its schedule of classes to approximately 60,000 families in Central New Jersey, and each class routinely fills in a matter of days. In addition, we conduct three summer camps divided by age (and location), and offer a top-notch tournament-training program. In all, PTP has over 5000 participants each year and has earned a stellar reputation as an excellent teaching program.
