Progressive Turnout Project is a grassroots Political Action Committee (PAC) proudly dedicated to doing what Democrats do best - connecting with voters one on one and getting Democrats to the polls.

Turnout as the strategy, not an afterthought

Progressive Turnout Project exists because, to us, turning out Democratic voters shouldn’t be something campaigns always talk about but never truly invest in.

In the wake of Citizens United, Democratic candidates have been scrambling to respond to an onslaught of attack ads from billionaires like the Koch brothers. Instead of only responding to negative ads with negative ads, we need to be using the power of an army of trained field representatives to overcome that onslaught and win elections again.

Progressive Turnout Project is here to get back to our roots and start focusing on connecting with voters. Not with slick television ads, but rather through authentic and honest conversations at the door and in local communities.

The difference between winning and losing

Experts agree that turnout efforts can swing an election as much as five percent. That means our efforts can be a game changer.

Progressive Turnout Project will be launching aggressive field campaigns in carefully targeted congressional races across the country where turnout could make the difference between winning and losing. By pooling grassroots financial support from all over the country, we are building the kind of early and locally based field campaigns that previously only presidential campaigns had been able to afford.

Data, data, data

Like all good organizers, we like to geek out on data. We’re obsessed with contacting the right voters at the right time and ultimately getting Democrats to the polls. Progressive Turnout Project is designing turnout programs using the most up to date research on voter turnout techniques, voter modeling, and professional field representative training. This allows us to communicate with voters in new and innovative ways as well as ensuring that our field representatives know the “best practices” to make a genuine connection with the voter.

Timing is everything

Get-Out-The-Vote can’t wait until the final days of a campaign. It needs to start on Day One. We are making the kind of early investments in Democratic turnout that candidates and state parties can’t afford to make this early in the cycle.

Investing early means we have the time to build local professional teams, develop specific programs for each targeted neighborhood and most importantly, constantly evaluate our results so that we get it right.

Choosing the right districts is key

At Progressive Turnout Project, we’re committed to focusing our resources on those highly competitive Congressional districts where we can make the most impact. We’ll use all available polling data, voter file information, and previous election results to identify the right races. And we won’t compete for resources – we’ll add to them.
