More about Prospect Hill Cemetery & Cremation Gardens

The story of Prospect Hill & Greenmount Cemetery and Cremation Gardens is the story of York County. From veterans to civilians, many prominent York families have chosen this sacred ground for their family burial estates. With over 60 acres still to be developed, the future for this community treasure promises to be as distinguished as its past. Prospect Hill & Greenmount Cemetery is where patriotism is practiced, where peacefulness reigns, where open-air art is on display, and where history lives in an outdoor educational classroom.

The local Reformed Church of York, Pennsylvania chartered Prospect Hill Cemetery in 1849 and has since been the final resting place for patriots from every war our country has participated. Our private cemetery is central Pennsylvania’s largest and most historic cemetery, consisting of 170 acres in North York and Manchester Township. Greenmount Cemetery was founded in 1898 and acquired by Jack Sommer, managing partner of Prospect Hill Cemetery, in 2007. In 2008, the IRS recognized the importance of the historic nature of our cemetery and our need to raise funds to preserve that heritage. Consequently, the Historic Prospect Hill Cemetery Heritage Foundation was granted 501 (c)(3) status. As a non-profit organization, the Historic Prospect Hill Cemetery Heritage Foundation is dedicated to preserving the historic heritage of Prospect Hill Cemetery. Community members are welcome to make a tax-deductible donation to the foundation and further keep Prospect Hill Cemetery’s hallowed grounds beautiful.
