In the Spring of 1984, while practicing on the field news came that help was needed for local volunteers to go and help out with a flood that had just broke out. The captain of the team summoned the team to drop everything and go help. Players went immediately without question in their sweaty, ragged and smelly practice clothes. The players made headlines that night on the 10 'O clock news as they would run barefoot back and forth hauling sandbags over their shoulders. Most of the players stayed up until the crack of dawn. The Mayor at the time was moved by such charitable acts of the players that he donated a field to the team.
