The Plan Challenge Process Helps Improve Contouring and Treatment Planning.
In 2007, we set out to define that possibility through the Plan Challenge Process—free nationwide events designed to objectively measure and compare the treatment planning best practices of the most advanced clinicians in medical dosimetry. As a result, Plan Challenge and Contouring Challenge events have allowed us to create a series of benchmarks from which optimal contouring and treatment planning can be derived.

In other words, our clinical partners have collaborated with ROR to define criteria for best practices from actual work performed on clinical data sets provided across the most widely used treatment planning systems! Now, more than ever, we believe it is possible to improve both quality and operational efficiency by clinically integrating people, systems and processes to truly optimize treatment planning and delivery of radiation therapy.

Technology Is Made Great By The People Who Use It.
For six years, Radiation Oncology Resources collaborated with clinicians, dosimetrists and treatment professionals around the world. This collaboration—initially intended to improve our own training, locum and remote planning services—revealed a subtly surprising pattern.

Radiation oncology clinics and treatment centers seemed to be in a mad dash to acquire the latest, highly-sophisticated technological tools for radiation treatment delivery. And while that in itself is a desirable goal, these acquisitions happen with no clear, consistent, repeatable model for how to deploy this technology to achieve the best treatment planning possible.

We discovered a significant gap between the technological capabilities of radiation therapy equipment and software… and the ability of clinicians, dosimetrists and professional treatment planners to maximize the use of that equipment for optimum patient care. As amazing as they are, the machines are only as good as the people operating them.
