Rayna Thomas - Makeup Artist

Rayna started thinking about a career in makeup in 2012. She has always had an interest in cosmetology; her mother had gone to beauty school and always practiced on her and her sister as they grew up. It wasn’t until 2013 that she started to pursue being a freelance makeup artist. Rayna has been doing makeup ever since, and is continuing to learn everything she can. Everything she has learned so far has been self-taught, mostly through experience of being on set of fashion shows, music videos, and photo-shoots. She enjoys the photography and film side of the makeup industry. With-in just a year she has built and extensive portfolio of work she’s done with many local and non-local models and photographers, and has established a steady clientele. She’s also done work to help fund raise for local nonprofits; she did makeup on set for a music video/fashion show for the Cascade AIDS project. She has partnered up with photographers that want to donate services to help raise money for a family in need. She works full time for the Native American youth & family center, and has incorporated her talent into her work by doing makeup for the young women for their high school Prom. Rayna comes from a Native American heritage; her mother is Ojibwe from Red Lake, Minnesota. Her culture is very important to her; & loves to work with the native community. In 2013 she got the chance to help out with hairstyling for a N7 Nike Fashion Show called “Bridging the Arts”, one of her favorite show’s she has be a part of, even though she didn’t actually do any makeup, but because it was so inspiring for her to see and work next to other talented Native artists and models. Any opportunity Rayna can get to help out someone with her talent & empower others, she won’t hesitate to do so.

Rayna is also a mother; she has an 8 year old son. While she’s not working, doing makeup, or at school, she is enjoying time with her son. Rayna is attending Portland beauty school, studying esthetics. Once she graduates and is licensed, she plans to continue her education and go to a makeup school in California, she wants to learn more in depth airbrushing and special effects makeup. Rayna plans to one day open her own salon, but she also dreams of working on the sets of major film studios in Hollywood!
