In May of 2010, Haden and Rose began roasting coffee on a 3 kilo electric roaster, affectionately called the “red rooster.” Freshly engaged to be married, the two conscripted their childhood friends to help them renovate the back of Rose’s mother’s bookstore into a small coffee roastery and retail store. 6 years later, Red Rooster is still pursuing excellence in small batches, with a focus on direct trade, fair trade, organic, and transparent coffees, all roasted one block from the only stoplight in Floyd, VA!
