Reliance Cafe

The Reliance Cafe is York's oldest food establishment. The building was established in the early years of 1900 and was adjoined to the West York Fire Company. The restaurant was known as Fishel's restaurant & cigar store. In 1937 it was named Reliance Cafe. In the late 1930's til the 1960's it was owned and operated by the Klinendist family. Between the early 1960's til 1967 the restaurant was owned by Bill Hershey. From 1967 til 1971 the Reliance was owned by Herman Klingenmaier and Bud Markle. From 1971 til today the Sgagias family owns and operates this historic restaurant. The Reliance was the first restaurant in York to install an ice maker machine in the late 1940's and a television set in the 1950's. For more than 100 years several generations of people have been dining at the Reliance, enjoying quality home food made from scratch, as well as family oriented prices and friendly service.
