The gospel is the good news that God sent His Son into the world on a rescue mission to save us. With all mankind, we had turned our backs on God. But God sent Jesus to live the life we should have lived, and die the death we deserved for our sins. Jesus conquered death by going through it and coming out of the tomb alive on the third day. When we believe in Jesus’ work as our substitute, and rely upon His record (rather than ours) for our relationship to God, we are forgiven, accepted, and adopted as God’s beloved children. The gospel provides our true identity, guides our daily decisions, and empowers us to live for God’s glory.
