Rex and Silver Fox Rabbit Breeder

The name of our rabbitry is "Ra Ra House, The Carrot Munchers Society." We raise rabbits as a family project. We started with my daughters 1st 4-H rabbit, Peter, who we brought home 10-29-2010. We fell in love with the Rex rabbit. They are not a rare heritage breed, but we love their plush velvety fur and sweet personalities. We now have 5 Rex does and a buck. As long as we raise rabbits we will always raise the Rex.

We got involved with rabbits through 4-H and our rabbitry has grown to allow my children to explore all parts of raising rabbits. From pet to breeding to market and everything in between. My children have developmental and learning difficulties and the project of raising rabbits has brought my daughter out of her shell. Rabbits cured depression and brought joy to our home.

We for a short period of time raised Holland Lops, but discovered that they were not a breed meant for us. My daughter informed me one day that she likes the large breed rabbits because she finds them more challenging to show. We discussed having two breeds of rabbits in our rabbitry. She presented me with a list of rabbits she was interested in and all of them were heritage breeds. After a lot of research we determined which breeds would not be ideal for us. Plus it would of been impossible to find a couple of them any where near us. We narrowed it down to three breeds. After finding a Silver Fox breeder and seeing the rabbits in person we fell in love with them.

We plan on showing them and continuing to learn more about the standards of both the Rex and Silver Fox's. I have my daughter set to attend her 2nd real rabbit show on September 28th 2013. She will be bringing some Rex's and some Silver Fox's. Her 1st show was 2 years ago and the breeder we got her first two Rex's from brought her with her. It was a nice experience and I was grateful that someone who breeds and shows rabbits would take the time to give my daughter that experience.

We have learned lessons good and bad. We are always open for new ideas and better ways of doing things. We are a family raising rabbits as a project we enjoy. We love hearing from others, but we ask that you be kind and respectful while communicating on our page. We post the things we are learning, some mistakes we have made, interesting information we find and photos of rabbits we love. Nothing is posted to be insulting and you will not ever see me post disparaging remarks about the way someone else raises their rabbits. I have read a lot of rabbitry pages and everyone seams to have their own methods that work for them. Raising health, happy, good quality rabbits is one of our goals.
