Rise and Shine Academy

Toledo Rise and Shine recognizes the necessity of additional support and training programs for low-income families to obtain a higher social and economic status. With this in mind, Toledo Rise and Shine has created and implemented a number of programs that positively affect the daily lives of children, young adults and their parents.

Dr. Pat McKinstry, founder and CEO understands the needs of today’s youth and young adults. Under Dr. McKinstry’s leadership, many disenfranchised youth and young adults have dedicated their lives to better themselves becoming productive and effective citizens. Every child deserves to receive a valuable education regardless of their position in life.

Toledo Rise and Shine opened Rise and Shine Academy, a free community-based school committed to create a powerful learning community centered on core values and shared commitment to academic excellence. Rise and Shine Academy will empower students to direct their lives toward positive goals, providing opportunities for their full participation as responsible and productive leaders of society.

The overall goal of the Rise and Shine Academy is to provide every child with excellent instruction preparing children for success through quality academic and enrichment programs that will rival that of the best schools in the country. Rise and Shine Academy of Toledo is a K-6 college preparatory program. Rise and Shine Academy offers a proven balanced instructional program, which excels in high poverty and in English Language Learner communities. As students transition into upper grades the Rise and Shine model focuses on the sciences, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM) field.
