WHAT
IS
A
C. S. A. ?
Keep reading to find out! Thousands of Kentuckians are enjoying a CSA every year. Here’s your chance to join them right here in your area. Find out why they are so popular in other parts of Kentucky, Tennessee and across the US and Canada.

BROUGHT TO YOU BY, RIVENDEL FARMS AND
“SHARING THE HARVEST, C.S.A.”
C. S. A.
CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture”. It’s simply an agreement in which you purchase a ‘share’ in a local harvest garden. Your share provides a portion of the farm expenses, including labor and the purchase of seeds and supplies (soil amendments, equipment, etc.). In return, as a “shareholder/member”, you receive a basket of whatever produce is harvested from our local fields each week. Think of it as owning a garden, but not having to water and pull the weeds!
General Share Information Customers who buy a share into “Sharing the Harvest, C.S.A.”, will receive a weekly basket of freshly harvested produce for our 20-week growing season, May – October, with 3 bonus baskets in the year.
1. One in April at our Earth Day celebrations to kick off the harvest season,
2. One the second week of November, in time for Thanksgiving to celebrate the end of harvest season.
3. One the first part of December, a “Sharing the Harvest”, Christmas gift to you from your growers.
There are 3 different size baskets for a total of 23 weeks.
1. A share is a half-bushel basket containing enough produce for approximately 4 people, depending on your eating and cooking habits. $400.00
2. Half-shares Is for 2 people $220.00
3. Single shares Is for a senior single or a very light eater $110.00
(payment plan options available)
Along with their basket of produce, shareholders will receive a weekly newsletter , listing the contents of their basket along with recipes, storage tips, farm news, etc.
We deliver CSA shares to Holiday Burger, in Hopkinsville on Wednesdays, we are also looking into a delivery point in northern Clarksville, TN and of course customers can pick up their shares right here at Rivendel Farms on Wednesdays and Saturdays just north of Cadiz.

Weather Risks -All farming endeavors are at the mercy of the weather. There might be an early frost that kills the strawberry blossoms, so we have to wait until next year to enjoy them. But because we are a multi-farm CSA our produce may be lost on one farm but saved on another.
Pests/Disease-There’s always a chance that pests or blight might do damage to a certain crop. What happens then? We just do as our grandparents would have done. For example, if Colorado Potato Beetles destroy our potato harvest, then we eat more sweet potatoes instead! If we lose some summer squash to powdery mildew, then we add more zucchini to the menu! But as with the weather, because of the multi-farm format we have a better chance of out witting the pests and disease that may damage one field but saved another from disaster. We also do multi plantings so the vegies will be just a little later than planned but you will not have to go without.
What We Grow We want our shareholders to experience the wonders and pleasures that our community has to offer. That’s why we carefully choose seed varieties from heirloom and open pollinated stock, and a few organic hybrids that are known to be the most flavorful! Of course, the contents of each weekly basket will vary according to the growing season. We strive to time our harvests so that we can provide at least 4 or 5 different items each week. That way, each and every basket is sure to be a wonderful feast of culinary delights.
